12th pass (or equivalent) examination from a recognized board in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with minimum aggregate marks as prescribed by the institution, generally around 50% to 60%. Candidates must also have studied English as a subject.
Admission is primarily based on national-level or institute-level entrance exams such as IMU-CET and other maritime entrance tests conducted by recognized institutions. Some colleges also conduct their own written tests, interviews, and aptitude assessments.
Candidates must meet the required medical fitness standards prescribed for maritime courses. After completion of the program, candidates must obtain the relevant maritime certifications and approvals as required by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and maritime authorities for onboard service.
Minimum age of 17 years at the time of admission. Maximum age generally varies by institute and admission category, usually up to 25 years for most maritime programs.
